Abstract

The design and implementation of the information presentation of Alparon system is presented. Alparon is an automatic speech processing system for offering train time table information by telephone. Tasks covered include formulating and executing queries from the information given by the customer, translating between data formats used in databases and the format chosen in Alparon, storing travel plans, choosing the best plan and preparing a presentation of this plan. Emphasis is put on the strategy for presenting travel plans, which is based on a study of how human operators perform this task. A mechanism for specifying templates for the presentations has been implemented. The effectiveness of the presentation strategy have not been studied, however, since testing requires other parts of the system yet to be implemented.
