    ABSTRACT:
Non-verbal communication plays an important role in human communication. At the Delft University of Technology there is a project running on the automatic recognition of facial expressions. The developed system ISFER (Integrated System for Facial Expression Recognition) is implemented in the programming language Java, and has a modular structure. The system has various modules for the preprocessing, the analysis and interpretation of facial expressions. A graphical user interface can be used to select and connect modules from these different phases. In this way, various networks of different modules can be created and tested on the same set of pictures.
