Starting the Framework

The Framework is written in Java. Before you can run it, you must make some preparations. Java programs are executed by the Java Virtual Machine, which only runs on the Sun workstations that have the Solaris operating system installed. If you're logged into a workstation that has the SunOS operating system installed, you must first log in to a Solaris workstation to be able to run Java programs. The workstations called nissan, ford, sabel, mercedes and volvo are running the Solaris operating system.. There are several programs you can use to log in to another computer. An easy way is to use the program xon. It creates a new terminal window (an xterm) on the computer of your choice. For example, to run a xterm on the workstation called nissan, you can use the following command line:

xon nissan
